    The Friends of the Talkeetna Library are hosting a book fair with Fireside Books on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 5th, 6th and 7th from 11am until 6pm at the Talkeetna Public Library.     Denali Education Center hosts Career Soup every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30pm through April 2nd. Career Soup is a weekly watch party of Discover What You Were Born To Do, a 12-week course written by local executive career mentor, Shannon Post. Along with the watch party, there is a potluck and conversation. This course is tailored to those who may engage better in a group setting or need support figuring out the next step.   • Jack MacDonald ice rink closed

    Hockey Rink at Talkeetna Elementary

    Due to unusually warm temperatures, the ice at the Jack MacDonald ice rink at Talkeetna Elementary School is closed. Please stay off the ice until temperatures return to below freezing and the ice is solid. Walking and/or skating on unfrozen or partially frozen ice can destroy the base ice.

    If you need cardboard for the Talkeetna Ice Festival Cardboard Chariot Challenge, you can stop by the Denali Education Center any weekday between 1 and 5pm and grab some.

  • Talkeetna Ice Festival – Friday, February 6th

    Sheldon Community Arts Hangar

    The Denali Arts Council hosts several events on Friday as part of their annual Talkeetna Ice Festival.  The Talkeetna Art Walk includes the Fiber Art exhibit at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar as well as featured artists at businesses in Talkeetna. Between 3 and 6pm, pick up an art passport and map at the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe or at the Hangar and get it stamped on your art walk. From 6 to 7pm, there will be fire spinners outside the Hangar. The final event is a candlelight concert in the hangar with award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis and jazz guitarist Jimmy Grant, performing Django Duets.

  • Talkeetna Ice Festival – Saturday, February 7th

    The Talkeetna Ice Festival continues on Saturday, February 7th. The events include the ice carving competition in the park, races on Main Street and a chili cookoff.  At 7pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar is the Northern Aspects Film Festival, showcasing the best independent ski and ride films of Alaska.   • Ice Rink repair and maintenance

    The ice at Jack MacDonald Ice Rink at Talkeetna Elementary School will be getting significant repair and maintenance on Saturday, February 7th. Please be respectful of any posted signage and stay off the ice if it is not completely frozen. Skating and/or walking on unfrozen ice can damage it.

  • Financial Aid Resource Fair – Mat-Su College

    Mat-Su College is hosting a Financial Aid Resource Fair at their campus on College Drive in Palmer on Saturday, February 7th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be help for completing the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), information on scholarships and advice on funding post-secondary education. Campus tours will also be available.   • Take Your Child to the Library Day – Talkeetna Public Library

    The Friends of the Talkeetna Library host Take Your Child to the Library Day at the Talkeetna Public Library on Saturday, February 7th from 11am until 4pm. Kids can sign up for their own library card, learn how to use the library with a scavenger hunt, create a Valentine's craft, and do a science experiment that yields a sweet treat. Refreshments and snacks will be available. There is also be a book fair at the library through Saturday, a portion of the proceeds go to the Friends of the Talkeetna Library and towards the purchase of new material for the community.   • Ice Carving Workshop

    Sheldon Community Arts Hangar

    Denali Arts Council is offering an ice carving workshop with Professional Ice Sculptor, Tommy Salami. on Sunday, February 8th. In the workshop you will carve a 10lb block of ice into a masterpiece that you get to take home. Ice and tools will be provided. This workshop will be held outside at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, so dress warmly. There are 2 sessions to choose between: 11am-1pm and 2-4 pm.   • Poker Ski – Denali Nordic Ski Club

    The Denali Nordic Ski Club hosts the annual Poker Ski, a 7.5ish mile ski from the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe to Denali BrewPub, downtown.  This ski begins at 12pm from the Flying Squirrel and is fun for all ages. 

  • Super Bowl party – Talkeetna VFW

    VFW Post on Veterens Way in Talkeetna

    The VFW in Talkeetna is hosting a Super Bowl party this Sunday, February 8th. Doors open at 1pm, kick off is at 2:30pm. There will be wings and door prizes; attendees may bring something to add to the Snack Stadium.

  • Complexities of Love Rehearsals – Denali Arts Council

    The variety show, Complexities of Love, is February 13th and 14th and Denali Arts Council is looking for performers. If you have a talent you’d like to share—dance, music, singing, comedy, poetry, puppetry, or anything else—they’d love to hear from you. The final rehearsal and audition is on Sunday, February 8th, from 3 to 5pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. You must audition for Jenny in order to be included in the show.     KTNA's Annual Decadent Dessert Auction is this week! Tune in daily as we auction off delicious, locally-crafted works of art. The live, on-air auctions are held at 2pm and 8pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday we are hosting on-air auctions at 1 pm and 2pm. Then our finale is during a Decadent Dessert skit at the Complexities of Love variety show at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday and Saturday evenings.
