  • Mentoring Program – Willow Public Library

    Willow Public Library

    The Willow Public Library Mentoring Program meets each Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30pm. This program is open to all Willow Elementary Students. The mentor and youth meet at the Library and might read to one another, browse for books or do activities like crafts, puzzles, games.   • Susitna River Coalition Winter Speaker Series

    Susitna River Coalition begins their 2025 Winter Speaker Series with Angie Wade, Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and Culture & Historic Preservation Director with the Chickaloon Village. Angie will be discussing culturally modified trees, exploring how these trees carry significance for many Indigenous communities. This is a virtual event on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6pm.     Denali Arts Council is hosting the following events at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar:

    • Shakedown Strings, a jam band from Kansas City, Missouri will perform a benefit concert for DAC on Wednesday, January 22nd. Doors at 6:30pm, music at 7pm.

  • International Guitar Night Concert

    The Denali Arts Council hosts International Guitar Night, the world’s premier touring guitar festival. For each tour, founder Brian Gore brings together a new cast of guitar luminaries for special evenings of solos, duets, and quartets that highlight the dexterity and diversity within the world of acoustic guitar.     Talkeetna Public Library offers Reading Mentors Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:15pm. Second to fourth graders are invited to attend this program, where students are matched with adult reading partners.   • AARP Tax Assistance appointments

    Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center 16463 E. Helena Ave. / Mile 98.5 Parks Hwy., Sunshine, Alaska

    AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) tax representatives are available to assist local residents on completing their 2024 taxes. They will be at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center from 10am until 4pm every other Wednesday, until April 9th. Assistance is by appointment only, you can schedule by calling 211 or (800) 478-2221 or visit taxappointment.aarp.org. Available dates are: February 26th, March 12th, March 26th, and April 9th. Appointments are available on alternative Wednesdays at Houston City Hall.

  • Talkeetna Ice Festival Kick-Off Event

    The community is invited to a Kick-Off Party in Village Park for the Talkeetna Ice Festival from 4 - 6pm to celebrate the start of the Festival and the ice carving competition. The Talkeetna Elementary School PTA will have s’mores, hot cocoa, and hot soups for sale (benefiting the Talkeetna Elementary PTA). There is ice available if you are interested in carving, register at denaliartscouncil.org.
