Planners for the Denali State Park Visitor’s center have initiated phase one of the master plan by opening an invitation to bid on construction of a road, hiking trail, and campground at the South-Denali site near mile 135 of the Parks Highway. The first phase of the project consists of constructing approximately one-and-a-half miles of two-lane access for the Denali State Park Visitor Center Complex along with a 22-car parking area and a 32-campsite campground. The work includes clearing and grubbing, earthwork, topsoil and seed, and installation of roadway and park amenities.
Future developments at the location call for a visitor center, additional parking, and trailheads to access views of Denali and Curry Ridge.
The Invitation to Bid closes on May 16th, and the Department of Natural Resources expects groundwork for surveying to begin in June. Actual clearing of the site won’t happen before July 15th, due to the Migratory Bird act.
