Improvements on Mainstreet
On September 30th, the Mainstreet Area Improvement Committee met for the first time since last April to review past successes and set future priorities. Members agreed to continue convening throughout this fall.
The Talkeetna Community Council formed the committee to improve the Mainstreet area by focusing on pedestrian safety, traffic flow and parking.
During the meeting, members highlighted three improvements implemented since last May. In collaboration with the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and D&S, the committee improved street striping in several areas downtown. The committee also shifted striping from fall to spring to ensure the streets are in good shape for the high season. Additionally, the committee clarified Mainstreet’s right-of-way boundaries.
Several recommendations are still in process, including removing diagonal parking on the south side of Village Park, increasing the frequency of street sweeping, and improving parking on C Street to allow emergency vehicle access.
The committee is still considering additional recommendations. The next meeting is on Wednesday, October 24th at Denali Education Center.
