Local Democrat Runs for House District 30

Local voters will find Talkeetna Democrat Sandra Loomis on their ballot on November 3rd. She’s running against incumbent Kevin McCabe, Doug Massie and Doyle Holmes. She’s the only democrat vying for a House District 30 seat.

In 2007, when Susitna Valley High School burned down, Loomis says she became more politically active. She helped organize a group to advocate for the school’s reconstruction, and joined the school’s board. 

Now, she believes it’s time for a change in the state legislature. After failing to successfully encourage other community members to run, she decided it was time to put her name in the hat.

Loomis says that, based on her time door-knocking and attending community meetings, three issues are most important to the people of her district: taxes, roads, and the AIDEA land transfer proposal. 

She is concerned that the AIDEA proposal may open the door to data center development. If elected, she says, she would support more government oversight. She believes that communities should decide whether they want that kind of development in their backyards. 

Loomis also hopes for community benefit agreements and independent reviews of water and air quality, rather than reviews by the data center companies themselves.
