Local pic makes it in to Weather Service contest

Talkeetna Photographer Greg Morgan’s photo of Denali glowing in the moonlight above the jumbled landscape of ice on the Susitna River has been included in a competition on the US  National Weather Service Alaska’s Facebook page. The photo, taken on November 25th at 8 pm, captures an example of the crystal clear weather the upper Susitna valley has been experiencing for several weeks now. Morgan’s photo is one of 45 submissions, and the winner of the contest gets the bragging rights of being the new cover photo for the Weather Service Alaska’s page.

The Weather Service has released numbers on the below-average snowfall levels in SouthCentral Alaska. Between two and six inches have fallen so far along the major snowfall gauges along the Glenn and Parks Highways. Snow is deeper along high areas, but that is little consolation to dog-teams still running in front of four-wheelers, and skiers and snow-machines limited to flat trails with enough snowpack to be useful.
