Local Rivers Rising. Most Forecast to Crest Below Flood Stage by Wednesday

After weeks without measurable rainfall, the Northern Susitna Valley has seen days on end of significant precipitation.  As a result, local rivers and creeks are rising.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no area rivers monitored by the National Weather Service’s Alaska-Pacific River Forecast Center are expected to enter flood stage as a result of the current weather system.

Most rivers in the Northern Susitna Valley are near “Action Stage” and are expected to crest sometime Wednesday.  The Kashwitna River near Willow Creek had crested already as of Tuesday afternoon.

The weather forecast for the area calls for rain to continue further into this week.  KTNA is monitoring the status of local rivers and will provide additional information as it becomes available.  If you know of localized flooding, especially in an area not monitored by the River Forecast Center, you can let us know at 907-733-1900 or by email at news@ktna.org.
