Montana Creek Fire Partially Contained

As of 6 am Monday, an Incident Management Team, or IMT, is handling the Montana Creek Fire that started Saturday near Mile 95 on the Parks Highway. 

Kim Hemenway, the Public Information Officer of the Wyoming Type 3 IMT, says the fire is now 40 percent contained. There are four levels of response teams, increasing in complexity with 1 being the most complex. Three crew divisions have been able to place hose lines around the entire perimeter of the fire. There are 80 personnel on site.

Initial attack resources, made up of local fire crews and smokejumpers, have been released from the scene so they can respond to other fires. 

Recent rainfall, cooler temperatures, and aerial water drops have helped diminish fire activity. The fire has burned about 172 acres and is consuming grass, brush, and black spruce. 

Hemenway says there are no road closures at this time, but residents on Leroy Davie and Montana Creek Roads remain in the SET status. Use caution when driving on the Parks Highway Miles 94 through 100. Smoke may hinder visibility and crews and equipment may be near the roadway. Crews will continue to work on fire suppression and mopping up around residences and structures for the remainder of the day. One outbuilding was lost to the fire, but no residences have been burned.  

With the fire in partial containment, the IMT will provide updates only once per day.
