In this edtition of StarDate Susitna, Kathleen Fleming continues telling us about the Moon’s unusual trajectory, it’s meet up with Jupiter Wednesday night, some unexpected results of last month’s photo assignment, and she reveals a new scheme to share views of the partial solar eclipse which will be widely visible on April 8th.

Moon and Denali Photo Study
The January photo assignment (Moon and Denali) ended up revealing something Kathleen did not anticipate; the west or east position of the moon relative to the mountain is determined more than expected by the west to east position of the photographer. The elevations became secondary, and not included in this “study”. Click on this link to see the page Kathleen put together. Photos have been cropped and manipulated for easier comparisons. Thanks to Mary Lou, Willi, Brian, Karl and Maureen. The image with the moon touching Denali is Kathleen’s. Ideally, there would be a map showing the sight lines drawn on it to show the photographer’s locations and direction to Denali. That hasn’t been created, yet. The next photo assignment will make that easier: everyone take a photo on the same day when the moon is directly over the peak, and note the time of the photo, with the observer’s location details… stay tuned!
