Su Valley shines at state track meet, including a gold medal

Su Valley High School Track and Field coaches Steve and Tom Harrison, and high jump coach Bruce Gunderson celebrated victory at the Regional Championships earlier this May. It was the first time in a long time that all 16 athletes qualified for the Division II State Championships that were held at Palmer High School on May 25th-26th, 2018. Su Valley Track and Field is a small team of only 4 girls and 12 boys, yet they proved their strength and ability at this year’s State Championships.
In an interview with KTNA’s Katie Writer, Maya Mossanen reflects on the moment that she became the 2018 State Champion High Jumper.
After a season of hard work on and off the track, Su Valley track and field athletes came home from State Championships with amazing results for a small school. One standout finish was by Freshman, Maya Mossanen who finished first place in the high jump with a five foot, one inch jump, marking a new personal record.
Other results from the state meet include:
Aiden Jolley, Cy Jolley, Luke Graupman, Dalton Pinard placed 4th in 4 X 100 Relay.

Women’s 400 relay team members, Dylan Bietsch, Bailey Mischenko, Maya Mossanen, and Tatum Roderick placed 5th in the 400 Relay.
Tatum Roderick raced in the 100, 200, and 400 Meter Preliminary events with 11th place, 12th place and 16th place finishes.
John Hicks finished 14th in the 200 Meter and Dalton Pinard finished 12th in 110m 39 inch hurdles.
