Capital Campaign at Upper Susitna Food Pantry
The pantry has plans for a 48x90 square foot building. This extra space would give the organization room for a prep kitchen, bathroom, waiting room, walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler.
The Upper Susitna Food Pantry is in the midst of a capital campaign raising funds for a new building. Executive director LouAnne Carroll-Tysdal says their fundraising goal is $750,000 to secure a potential congressional funding match.
Currently, the pantry’s numerous programs operate out of a 25x25 square foot building. They have no running water, so they use a porta-potty and carry in water for sink access.
In 2024, with a $300,000 infrastructure grant, the Upper Susitna Food Pantry purchased land for a larger building. Two storage buildings and a garden that feeds the community are on the property.
A new building would increase capacity to store and distribute food, making labor more efficient.

Carroll-Tysdal says their first capital campaign milestone is $100,000, which she hopes they can hit by next March. After that, they will keep setting new goals.
